The BMW i8 Roadster was shown in a convertible and a coupe. Range and power were both better than the last version. • Mercedes-Benz created a beautiful electric car called the AMG Project One with a short range (20 miles) and a big price tag ($3 million). This version also has a built-in trashcan. • The Bollinger B1 SUV is an electric vehicle that sells for $60,000 and has a range of 120 miles. • The VW I.D. Buzz is electric powered and, well, cute. • The China Hi-Tech Group, backed by the Chinese government, founded an electric car company called Redspace and hired Chris Bangle, who used to be a design chief at BMW. Redspace showed an electric concept car it plans to sell in China. The car, which is primarily white, orange, and black, is not sleek and looks a little like a cross between a coffee maker and a postage delivery truck. Assuming its target audience likes it enough to buy it, the Redspace Electric Car might also someday be a familiar sight in global cities. LA CAR SHOW — continued from page 11
