The college is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and has campus locations in Valencia and Canyon Country. College of the Canyons is part of the California Community College system, which consists of 114 colleges serving nearly 2.1 million students throughout the state. Better known as COC, the college is located in Santa Clarita, California, about 30 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, and covers a 367-square-mile service area. It offers nearly 170 associate degree and certificate programs, and serves 32,000 students per year at campuses in Valencia and Canyon Country, as well as online. In addition to meeting the academic needs of students seeking transfer and career technical education, the college also plays a key role in developing the economy of its service area. The Economic Development Division generates approximately $4 million per year to provide cutting-edge training to more than 3,600 employees at nearly 1,000 area companies. The college participates in several innovative partnerships that have redefined the traditional role of community colleges. It collaborates with nearly every social service agency in the community, with the school districts, with the city, the Chamber of Commerce, and many local businesses. The College’s unique University Center allows students to earn bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from a collection of public and private universities that offer their programs in the Center, improving access to education by eliminating the need for residents to commute long distances to obtain advanced degrees. More than 40 degree programs are available through the University Center, which has seen approximately 3,000 students earn degrees since 2002. Opened in 1969, the college has fostered a reputation for innovation, excellence, partnerships, and student success over its past four-and-a-half decades of service to its community. About the College of the Canyons Foundation: The College of the Canyons Foundation is an important component of the educational experience provided by the Santa Clarita Community College District. The foundation helps fill gaps in state funding, provide financial resources to students and educators, and work to ensure that all those who seek higher education have the resources to do so. This is done in collaboration with its community partners and generous supporters.
