W Dear Colleagues, e welcome you to the 2014 membership year edition of the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association An- nual Report. We are proud of the as- sociation’s accomplish- ments this past calendar year. We have worked closely with member dealers, local, state and federal political representa- tives and their staffs, friends in the industry, to better the working environment for New Car Dealers here in Los An- geles County. Dealers and friends sold almost 400000 new vehicles this past year while maintaining high quality factory authorized service facilities keeping cars and trucks running safely on our roads. Our members and board of directors are committed in the communities they do business in, often living in those very same communities. The growth in full time employment and wages for their employees remains on an upward trend as we continue to work our way out of the global financial crisis of a few years ago. We are proud of being one of the largest group producers of sales tax revenue funding our local and state governments. In addition we continue to support local law enforcement, community services, and education in ways that are relevant to the automotive community. As a nonprofit entity, GLANCDA continues its philanthropic giving to a wide variety of charitable and community or- ganizations that are carefully selected. These groups all have a presence here in the Los Angeles area, and are doing wonderful work that benefits those who are most in need. These groups include: San Gabriel Boy Scouts of America, City of Hope Hospital, Foothill Unity Center, Geffen Play- house Foundation, Proyecto Pastoral at Dolores Mission, Los Angeles Special Olympics, Grammy Museum Foundation Educational Services, San Gabriel Valley YMCA, Homeboy Industries, San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Northwood University (promoting careers in the Automotive Industry), The Heart Foundation, The Open Academy, Pasadena Educational Foundation, Hill- sides (Home for Abused Children), Life Steps, H.O.P.E, For US Foundation, Easter Seals, Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Monica and Monrovia, and Heal the Bay. GLANCDA partners every year with SMCDA (Southland Motor Car Dealers Association) in sponsoring and running the High School Auto Technician Competition. This two stage event brings together High School Auto Shop students who aspire to have careers in the automotive industry, and tests their skill and knowledge. This event is a collaboration of dealers, manufacturers, educators, suppliers, and other agencies working closely together to promote this important mission. The winning team (Van Nuys High School) from our local event moved on to the National competition in April, 2014, and finished 7th overall. GLANCDA is proud to continue its endorsement of the Los Angeles International Auto Show, one of the premier Auto Shows in the world! The year 2014 proved to be a record year for Global and North American new vehicle debuts. Press days reached a new attendance high of over 18,000 members of the media as well as industry executives. Public day at- tendance reached almost 1 million people over the nine days the show ran at the end of November. Clearly the automobile industry is heading in a good direction here in Los Angeles! I am grateful for the opportunity to serve these past 18 months as president of the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association. In the following pages you will find highlights of our achievements during the past year. As we transition our leadership team, I encourage you all to work closely together by taking part in association events and educational opportunities. We will continue to serve the needs of all franchised NewCar Dealers by making our voices heard at every level of government and are grateful for your membership! Sincerely, IAN THOMAS President 2
