3 GLANCDA continued its efforts on the advocacy front with its involvement at the State and Federal level events sponsored by CNCDA and NADA! GLANCDA was also well represented at the NADAWashington Conference on September 9, 2014. During Hill visits, Congressional lawmak- ers were urged by dealers and ATAE’s to pass bipartisan legislation (H.R. 5403) that would nullify the CFPB’s flawed guidance on auto lend- ing and require more transparency and account- ability from the agency on future guidance T hese meetings also played a big part in helping convince California’s legislators how specifically these bills could have negatively affected New Car Dealers! • SB 994 (Monning) A risky mandate where unknown third party entities would have potentially limitless remote access to a customer’s vehicle and its data. Vehicle data is too important to grant unlimited access to anyone, especially since existing rules already cover access to necessary repair information. This bill is just too dangerous for California’s drivers and the public. • SB 686 (Jackson) A bill we managed to stop last year is back for another round this year. SB 686 still would prohibit deal- ers from selling or leasing any used vehicle subject to a manu- facturer’s recall until repaired - regardless of how minor the recall is or if a part is available. To make matters worse, the bill exempts rental car companies who rent vehicles to consumers even though they receive direct notification of all recalls! On April 9, 2014 a small delegation of GLANCDA Dealers descended on Sacramento to participate in Dealer Day! The dealers’ crucial meetings with Cali- fornia legislators built relationships, helped remind the legislators how important dealers are to their communi- ties and as state sales tax collectors, and educated them on the importance of stopping dangerous bills before they become law. GLANCDAwas represented by board members Darryl Holter, Pete Smith, John Symes, Peter Hoffman, and Executive Director Bob Smith.
